There is no known safe level of exposure to asbestos as mesothelioma can occur at any level of exposure. Mesothelioma has been reported to occur even 30 years after last exposure to asbestos.

It is also important to prevent household contacts of people working at factories using asbestos or workplaces where asbestos is used, for that the cloths of the worker should be washed daily.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration have laid down certain guidelines to prevent mesothelioma by asbestos regulations such as permissible level of exposure to asbestos in eight hours of work.
